Today is Valentines day and here are 10 things on what women want from their men. From what I’ve learnt over the years of dating and months of marriage, my wife is the same. Thankfully, I learnt this early on and have been applying it since.
When I was growing up, I never received much compliments, encouragement or affection from my parents. My dad believed that complimenting me too often would make me prideful and arrogant. Like many other parents, they also never opened themselves up to my brother and I. As a result, their expressions of love rubbed off on me and I too find it hard to dish out compliments and affection and love.
I started to realise this during the early stages of dating my wife. I would sometimes tell her how I felt about her but I could tell she yearned for more and something else. Sure I liked and loved her, but I kept a lot of it to myself. However, I knew that women wanted to hear the confirmation and the words, so I kept at it. It went from one “I love you” a week, to a day and now I proclaiming it to her more than 3-5 times a day along with other random “lovey dovey” quotes throughout the day.
This morning, I asked her jokingly whether she thought I was too affectionate and she said yes. My follow up question was “should I cut down?” and her reply was “no” and we ended up having a good laugh about it.
The words God put into our mouths are truly powerful, especially because words help lead to action.
It takes more than one Valentines Day a year for a sullen and unemotional guy like me to have transformed into an affectionate person towards my loved ones. Men, I challenge you to confess to your wife on a daily basis about how much she means to you. It could be as simple as my “you’re such a cuite”.
Any man can be “comfortable” but it takes a real man to keep the fire ignited and committed to his one and only wife.
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. (Ephesians 5:28)
