My wife and I got married in Korea and we decided not to throw another reception party when we got back as our expenses were out of control. But once we returned one of my wife’s friend started criticizing and scolding her for being disrespectful to our friends and elders. She didn’t even consider our situation (one job, school & credit card debt, honeymoon debt…), we felt hurt and angry that she would say such things without even trying to listen to our side. We prayed to God that night about how people were so unfair and about how much debt we had.
Miracles Do Happen
Long story short, we ended up hosting lunch and dinner. Cost of the lunch came out to $160 and the dinner $360.
However, after lunch I received two envelopes. The small envelope contained $110 and the larger envelope contained $360… my jaw dropped when I opened it in the car later that day. Needless to say, my wife’s jaw dropped as well.
The point of this testimony is pretty evident. All the money in the world belongs to God and he circulates it. We are merely in charge of allocating His assets, much like how a fund manager does his work.
Money’s True Owner
As a quick background, my wife’s work contract was cut short and we are now living off one income and some side income. We are in some serious debt at the moment and this recession isn’t helping. Every month we get further in debt yet God keeps telling us to give.
At first, we were intent not to spend another $520, but we did. Even though we obeyed reluctantly and grudgingly, God was pleased and He showed us first hand how He works. He just wants us to trust Him.
Our monthly donation now amounts to $82 excluding tithe and thanks offering. In this economy, while people are cutting back hard, we acknowledge that our money is God’s money and obey when He wants us to give. Finally we learnt to open our hands and “let go”.
Prayer for Money
Whenever my wife and I pray about money, we pray that God blesses us with how much we are capable of handling. Far too many good and faithful Christians have lost their way by the power and lure of money.
“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 6:24)
