I finally learnt what it meant for the Christian life to live according to the Bible. For so many years when I went to churches, conferences, cell groups and retreats, I always felt good. I felt so alive and free. It was like honey in the mouth. However, I must have always spat out the honey when I got back to daily life because I never fully digested it.
By digesting or eating the Bible, it means to live according to the Word. According to what God has told and taught you.
In the previous post where I wrote about an experience I had with my boss, although I disagreed with him and wanted to get my side of the story in, I kept quiet because I didn’t want to cause disharmony and be rebellious. I noted how I didn’t feel good and I felt like I cheated myself, but it seems like that is exactly what the God wants us to do.
By digesting the Bible, we are now in constant conflict between our natural sinful ways and the new revelation of God’s truth. This inner struggle and fight is what causes our stomach to turn sour.
I’m very close to completely cutting out all types of profanity, training my eyes, shielding myself from temptation and especially being careful in what and how I speak but it sure does make my stomach turn.
So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.” (Revelation 10:9)
