I am the type of person where once I start something, I go deeper and deeper into it. e.g. I’m not the greatest on the guitar but I still play regularly and spent a fair amount of time trying to improve. Same goes for photography which has now become one of my dominant hobbies which eventually led me to other disciplines in photo editing, videos and a little graphic design. So knowing how I am, I refuse to play golf, and for a very important reason.
Unlike other sports, golf is very time consuming. A round of golf usually takes half a day at the least but mostly often a full day from morning to dusk and I see and hear about far too many men living their lives on the course.
Many men expect their wives to understand and let them play the game because it’s just a “hobby”. The problem is that when we start arguing and fighting with our loved ones over how much time we spend on the greens rather than with them, the hobby has become an addiction and idol.
I had this fight so many times and each time I immediately assumed that my wife (girlfriend at that time) was just inconsiderate. Ultimately, God showed me that I was the one being inconsiderate and selfish. My priorities were all about me and that messed everything up. It was affecting my relationship with God and my girlfriend.
Now that I’ve got my priorities straight (1. God, 2. family, 3.work or church, 4.others) things are never better.
So rather than work on my swing or build up a club set, I would much prefer to spend the time studying and sharing the Bible with my wife and being a husband.
